Description
Hillerod is a picturesque town just a little north of the Danish capital Copenhagen. The main attraction is without a doubt the strikingly dramatic castle. It was early winter when I arrived at Frederiksborg Slot (or Frederiksborg Palace/Castle), and after a brisk walk through town, I was glad I'd made the journey. Both the chilly winter weather and the fact that it was mid week meant that I had the place almost to myself. It was ideal to photograph without the crowds that summer brings. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful lake and at the rear there is a wondeful Baroque style garden. The cobbled paths and brick buildings at the entrance give you a taste of what lies beyond. I could have easily spent an entire day wandering through the long corridors and ornate rooms filled with history...but it's just as well I don't spook easily as the only footsteps I heard on the wooden floorbards, were my own. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph in black and white to compliment the old world feel of this classic Danish castle scene.
